Life at a Folk High school
It is more than just exciting subjects. It is the everyday life we create together.
Folk High School can be hard to explain, to those who have not tried it yet. Before you come, you get a schedule and a letter with practical information, but the essence of community can be hard to put in an email or a leaflet. We have asked a former student to describe, what a day at Nordfyns Højskole could look like.

Mealtimes
Mealtimes becomes so much more than food
Mealtimes really are highlights of the day. After the first classes of the day, both the food and the conversations during lunch are welcomed with smiles. You can always expect a very delicious and varied range of food. The school kitchen staff are super skilled. Mealtimes are when the magic of communal dining truly comes alive. Here, you'll engage in vibrant conversations and gain fresh perspectives on events unfolding in the world, big or small. Regardless of who you share a table with, which might change from day to day, there's always something to talk about. You will experience all sorts of fun and surprising things about each other, for example whether you prefer to drink cold or hot water, or that someone has very strong attitudes about recycling. As part of the meals, you have duty once or twice a week after lunch and dinner with a group of other students.

Dive into the possibilities of the community
After your classes, you might have planned a bike ride to the harbor with friends, a quick ocean dip followed by ice cream, joining the basketball tournament on the multi-court, or catching a movie in the Assembly Hall. But even without plans, you might find yourself engaged in deep conversations about life with someone you haven't spoken much with before. Some may be sleeping on the lawn, while others work out in the gym. Just a few meters from your room, you will find someone to spend your afternoon with. In any case, you're likely to bump into someone as you make your way to the afternoon snack. Maybe you have had a relaxed afternoon in the room and recharged your batteries and are therefore looking forward to engage in exciting conversations at dinner or participating in the evening's activities that the duty teachers or some students have planned. Everything from swimming in the ocean, crossfit in the gym, a foosball tournament, to singing around a bonfire with s'mores or board game café in the dining room can be on the program. As the last hours of the day approach and you go to rest in the evening, you will find that even though others are asleep, there will always be students around the school all night long. You will notice that there's always life around you, and you will eventually become familiar with the habits of others.
