What happens in the interaction with another person? ‘Who’ do you meet? How do you interpret that person and the setting in which you meet? We focus on different forms of communication, relationships, culture, and all you carry when working with people.

SOSU intends to secure your personal development and your ability to understand other people, culture, society, and how life unfolds. The class is built around the interaction between people and other cultures with different sets of values. To understand other people, their culture, and to see them as ‘whole’ human beings, you must understand who you are and what your standpoint is. The primary development happens inside of you.

Højskole was a place of liberation for me. While learning about the Danish social welfare systems, history and politics in SOSU, on the other hand, I had learned so much from peer support among students.

What will we be doing?

Communication, concepts, and theory in understanding others and their actions, and oneself.

Through the classes, we will investigate the social sustainability of Denmark. How can we generate a more sustainable society? How should we cope as a citizen? We will take a deep look into the Danish welfare system and you will develop a strong perspective on the core and values of the social- and healthcare work in Denmark. You will receive a mixture of theory and practice which will be beneficial to you in future relevance. You will get the opportunity to compare different cultures and procedures from other countries and through this gain sympathy and empathy. Furthermore, you will gain useful insight into democratic thinking- All elements which generates personal development and strong relationships to other students at the high school. The learning objective is working with tools that help you understand the ‘whole’ human being and the society though social sustainability.
