Experience the world with Nordfyns Højskole

At Nordfyns, travel is an integral part of the experience. On all our long-term stays, we go on study trips to different destinations, and you also have the opportunity to combine your stay with an extended journey that includes volunteer work in Japan, starting after your time at the school ends.

Study trips

On our study trips, learning moves out into the world. We experience, explore, and gain new insights as we travel.

Each semester, the whole school packs their bags and sets off on study trips to destinations around the world. You choose your trip after you’ve started at the school and gained an overview of the options (typically two exciting choices). The destinations vary from semester to semester, but one thing is certain: it will always be an experience that leaves a lasting impression.

Before we travel, you and the other students who have chosen the same destination will take an elective together. Here, you’ll dive into culture, history, and social conditions, so you don’t just visit a place—you understand it and the people who live there. With curiosity, new perspectives, and our strong sense of community, we’re ready to create experiences you’ll remember for a long time.

Two months in Japan – an extension of your folk high school stay

At Nordfyns, you have the opportunity to extend your stay with an 8-week journey to Japan. Here, you’re not just a tourist—you become part of a community, living locally and getting close to everyday life.

The journey begins when your stay at the school ends. Together with the others who have chosen Japan, you travel to our local partners in northern Japan. Here, you live in the area, meet local people, and become part of daily life—far from overcrowded tourist spots and standard package tours.

During your semester at the school, you’ll prepare thoroughly for the journey as part of your classes. You’ll work with cultural understanding, language, and expectation-setting, so you can travel with the insight, curiosity, and respect needed to have an unforgettable experience—one you’ll carry with you for the rest of your life.
