Explore nature, feel true team spirit, and live out your inner adventurer on the folk high school Nordfyns Højskole’s Outdoor subject. You can join Outdoor no matter if you’re experienced and ourdoorsy or just curious about outdoor life. Everyone’s welcome under the open sky!

All hope is outside!

On the Outdoor subject you will feel, see, smell and taste nature. The outdoor life is wild and raw but also quiet and beautiful, constantly changing. Perhaps nature can also change you?

On Outdoor you will learn more about your personal strengths and your potential, and you will experience a boost in your physical and social skills. In other words: all hope is outside!

Outdoor is basically about practicing different disciplines in nature - in close collaboration with others. Community and teamwork play a crucial role in Outside: we help, encourage, and strengthen each other. When the rain is pouring down and we are standing in mud to our knees, we cheer for one other. Being a vital and indispensable part of a community, will make you discover new aspects of your character and get to know yourself even better.

You will also develop your physical shape, learn to cope with nature as well as establish an understanding of nature itself.

On our countless adventures in the wild, we focus on nature awareness and the fundamental principles behind Nordic outdoor life. You will, among others, get insights into local biodiversity, the aquatic environment, and the relationship between humankind and nature.

What will we be doing?

On Outdoor, we will experience the many disciplines of outdoor life by seeking into the nature and move in it.

On Outdoor curiosity and the urge for adventure will be our drive. Nordfyns Højskole is situated close to the forest and the sea, which makes the surroundings perfect for experiencing the great diversity and beauty of nature.

On the folk high school course Outdoor we will be doing a wide range of activities – all situated in the wild. We will catch, collect, and cook the foot we find. We will canoe and kayak, snorkel and swim in the sea. We will be fishing, harvesting clams and oysters, collecting mushrooms and herbs. We will be doing physical activities like hiking, biking, climbing and trying to survive one day alone in the wild.

All this and many other activities, which will prepare you for smaller or bigger adventures to come.

Maria Sichan

Maria is a passionate, swedish 'forest troll' , who thrives in all natures elements. She has a masters in philosophy and Nordic Litterature and has been a Højskole teacher since 2007. She likes to teach outside and with motion in both body and mind

Jakob Aspegren

Jakob is educated from The Independent Academy for Free Schools in Denmark. He lived and worked in Japan for before he started at Nordfyns Højskole in 2010. He loves the ocean and teaching among other things swimming, fishing and underwater hunting
