Course Modules
1. Borders and Belonging
What does it mean to belong – and who decides who’s in or out? In this module, we explore geographical, cultural, and emotional borders. Through guest speakers, documentaries, and field visits (such as refugee centers or cultural communities), we examine migration, identity, and the politics of belonging.
2. Climate Justice Now
This module investigates the unequal effects of climate change across the globe. We explore topics such as environmental racism, indigenous perspectives, and sustainable activism. Students will co-create small projects focused on local action with global impact.
3. Power and Protest
From Black Lives Matter to youth climate strikes – how do movements create change? We dive into the theory and tactics of social movements and explore how collective voices shape societies. Students get to design their own campaign or awareness project as part of the course.
4. Global Voices
In this storytelling-based module, we focus on hearing and sharing real-life experiences from across the world. Through international literature, guest sessions and exchange with our Japanese partner institutions, students practice empathy and communication across cultures.
5. The World You Want
This final project-based module empowers students to imagine and prototype initiatives for a more just and inclusive world. Whether it's a podcast, a photo exhibition, or a community event – the focus is on using your talents to speak up and make a difference.
